Turn up. Train hard for 20 minutes. Get on with your week.
Why once a week works
The workout is the signal. The week after is where you get strong.
Intense training tells your muscles to step up. Then your body needs five to eight days to fully recover and rebuild stronger than before. Train again too soon and you interrupt the improvement. That's the science behind one session, once a week.
Your time
The gym asks for hours. We ask for twenty minutes.
Slide to see how much of your life a typical three-sessions-a-week gym routine takes compared with fit20, before you even count travel, changing and waiting for machines.
Gym estimate: 3 × 60 minutes a week. fit20: 1 × 20 minutes a week. Both over 48 training weeks a year.

What members in Birstall say.
"I'm in my 70s. After covid I had difficulty stepping out of bed. I was sceptical how 20 minutes a week could help — I was wrong. In just 8 weeks I saw the change."
"After over 50 years of regular gym sessions I've discovered that in just 20 minutes a week my muscle strength has increased. I'd been using the gym all wrong!"
"6 months in and really impressed. fit20 means I can fit training around work, and the strength gains have been noticeable to me, my partner and friends. Nish and Rups even work around my bad knee."
"My doctor was surprised how mobile I am given my MRI scan. I told her about fit20 — she said she'd had other patients raving about it too."
"Resistance training is the main exercise that prevents age-related muscle loss. fit20 is private, quick, high-tech, once a week, in normal clothes — and no more expensive than formal gym sessions."

Good questions
Before you book, you'll probably want to know…
What is fit20?
fit20 is personal strength training in a private studio: one 20-minute session a week, always with a personal trainer, on six machines that work every major muscle group. The method was developed in the Netherlands and runs in more than 10 countries. fit20 Leicester Birstall is the studio at 143 Sibson Road, Birstall.
Is once a week really enough?
Yes. The improvement happens during recovery, which takes five to eight days after a session this intense. Training again sooner would interrupt it.
Do I need to change or shower?
No. The studio is climate-cooled and the training is slow, so you train in normal clothes and go straight back to your day.
What happens at the free introductory session?
A full 20-minute workout with a trainer, a look around the studio and a chat about your goals. No cost, no obligation, comfortable clothes.
Can I train at the weekend?
We're open Monday to Friday, 7am to 8:30pm, by appointment. We don't currently offer weekend sessions.
Why only 20 minutes?
Six specialised machines cover all your major muscle groups, and your trainer takes you to maximum effort in about two minutes on each. Training longer with this method wouldn't give greater benefits.
I'm unfit, older, or carrying an injury. Can I do it?
Almost certainly. The movement is slow and controlled, every machine is set to your level, and members range from 18 to 94. Tell us about any condition and we'll work around it.
How much does it cost?
Think weekly personal training rather than a gym membership — always private, never more than two people in the studio. We'll go through options and prices at your free session.
Where do I park?
Free street parking right outside on Sibson Road.
